Amit Trivedi's musical career began at Rizvi College in Mumbai, where he was a member of the fusion band "OM." The band played a few shows and had an album released by Times Music, but it failed to chart due to weak promotion. Amit's struggles continued with ad jingles, TV serial background scores, and theatre. Amit composed several tracks for Abhijeet Sawant's Junoon and one track for Prashant Tamang's debut album as part of a two-year deal with Sony BMG. Director Anurag Kashyap, who was looking for a composer for his ambitious project Dev.D, introduced him to singer Shilpa Rao. Anurag was so taken with Amit's music that he wanted to make a musical out of Dev.D (2009). Dev.D was supposed to be his debut album, but it was delayed due to production issues. Anurag suggested his name for the film Aamir (2008), which became his first Bollywood film. Dev.D was a watershed moment in his career, bringing him acclaim, fame, and a National Film Award for Best Music Direction. For the same film, he received two Filmfare awards and a Star Screen award. In Dev.D, Wake Up Sid (2009), and Udaan (2009), he collaborated with his college bandmate and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya (2010) Rather than becoming a music factory, he believes in creating good music that is connected to the film's script. His favorite genres are Jazz, Rock, and Western Classical, and his favorite instruments Clarinet, Oboe, Mandolin, Harmonica.
